Professionally, David holds dual licenses in Tennessee as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) and as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)- Mental Health Service Provider (MHSP). David is a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) under the American Board of Christian Sex Therapists, is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) under the National Board of Certified Counselors, has a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and holds his doctorate in psychology. David is also a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and serves on the Tennessee Division's board as the current President-Elect. David is also an active trainer and seminar speaker in both the US and in Europe and has been featured in several conferences and video series.

David primarily works from a Narrative Therapy perpective, but he also draws heavily on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Ericksonian theories, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Jungian Analysis. David is also trained in clinical hypnosis and uses this when requested and appropriate. In all these approaches, David has been trained to integrate his Christian faith and to work within Biblical principles and truth
